Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: Poor Kids DVD:
This is a truly engrossing documentary that chronicles the lives of several impoverished families here in the U.S., told from the perspective of children. As such, it makes for compelling storytelling. I am currently using this documentary with my high school seniors as an anticipatory activity for Barbara Ehrenreich's bestseller, "Nickel and Dimed." The students were glued to the screen during the showing; later, it provided a great whole-group discussion. Highly recommended.

This was one of the most powerful,gut-wrenching documentaries I've ever seen-and I make 'em for a living for the past quarter century. This should be required viewing of all 535 members of Congress.

If you think you have it bad, if you feel sorry for yourself, watch this and know you are better off than you think. Get out of your comfort zone and make a difference for one family. If we all help our poor maybe they will find a path to better days. Reach down and pull someone out of the rutt; you never know when it's your turn to fall.
