I've been watching PBS "Masterpiece" since it first came on the television back in the late 60s/early 70s when Alistair Cooke introduced each program on Sunday evening. I looked forward to each and every production because I knew it would be extremely well done. Over the decades since PBS "Masterpiece Theater" evolved into PBS "Masterpiece Mystery" and other variations such as "Masterpiece Classic," "Masterpiece Contemporary" and now simply "Masterpiece," I have never seen another presentation to match the quality, edge-of-your-seat drama, and the feeling of wanting to know what will happen with all the characters in the story of "Downton Abbey." And Dame Maggie Smith is one of my favorite British actresses...who could not fail to love her in the role of the Dowager Countess of Grantham? I wish this story would never end.

I pre-ordered Downton Abbey 3, and waited for it to arrive in the mail. It did. I'm so disappointed. The actors were great and the costumes lovely, but the story line was hurried and there was just too much Drama. Sybil's death was ugly. I don't want to see that much realism! and Edith's being left at the alter was unbelievable, and we waited so long for Mary & Matthew to finally get together, only to find Matthew lying dead on the ground at the end of the story. Good grief. This is just too far out there for me. I won't be purchasing Downton Abbey 4. And, I'll be donating Downton Abbey 3 to my library.

... "Masterpiece" truly lives up to it's name. The world can't wait for Season 4. Truly the best show ever, and now everything else is judged next to Downton Abbey. America, the UK and the world have been blessed. We've had enough of the violence, crime, sex, reality shows, etc., on TV. Settle down one night to a great performance and you'll be hooked....

I know that there is a seperate dvd for the final #9 session of Downton Abbey and I have purchased it along with the Season 3 one but I still haven't received it. Is there a reason or is it just not out yet?

Shows how good British actors/ess are! There is not one character in these series that doesn't play his/her part to the exception! Downton has come out of the worn out plots, and there is always something we can all relate to in real life. Congratulations on a job well done!

I love all three seasons. Looking forward to season 4. When will it be shown in the US. I wish you had not killed off Matthew since things were going so well. Why not just change the person that played Matthew.

Just don't understand why the writer has to kill just about every characters in the story. It is not getting any interesting anymore.
