Comments about PBS Masterpiece: Upstairs Downstairs: Season Two DVD:
Having seen all the excellent WWI-era episodes I was glad to see new ones, though skeptical they could be as good. Gladly the new ones have truly engaging stories, interesting characters and even more lovely settings, so I'm back on board for the lovely ride. I was disappointed that Season 2 was mostly minus Rose and wish there'd been more of her. I haven't seen the DVD yet but I'll be getting both 1 & 2, and would love to see more seasons!
Comments about PBS Masterpiece: Upstairs Downstairs: Season Two DVD:
I hesitated prior to buying because the original was so very excellent in every aspect. What is missing is a little more depth in each characters development; for example, why is Lady Persephone so frustrated? When one compares Lady Persephone's character to Elizabeth's in the original Upstairs, Downstairs, more substantive writing lends insight into the causes of Elizabeth's rebellious nature. Lady Persephone is in great rebellion, but it doesn't seem even she knows why? That makes her seem less authentic as to be cast aside. Better character writing provides insight about the blending of the characters inner and outer environments. That makes the character more believable, more enjoyable, and more toward a hallmark of excellence. Mylam O. James
