I would like to start by saying THANK YOU. This is something that everyone one of color should know about our history that is not learned in schools. So I thank you Dr. Gates and PBS for airing this and many other wonderful programs that help us to teach our children to be proud of who we are and that we can do the same things white people can with education and desire.

This is my first time watching this video and I was humbled and inspired by what I saw. I think every parent should make this a part of their movie collection. I certainly believe that every child should see this movie. My children will definitely be watching this with me very soon. The only thing I will say to them when it's over is "your are your own destiny". Thank you Mr. Gates for giving me the opportunity to own this lifechanging piece of gold.

As white parents raising adopted black children, this is the one dvd in our library that we watch every few months. Mr. Gates is willing to ask the tough questions in almost every interview while keeping the interviewees at ease with him. His style is a lesson in how to interview people that the talking heads on tv should study.

Mr. Gates also brings great insight and wisdom to the subject of race in America. He isn't willing to let anyone off easy and uses history as a guide to a better understanding of the state of race in America.
