Comments about PBS Mystery!: Dorothy L. Sayers Mysteries DVD 3PK:
The acting is wonderful by all, but I must applaud separately Edward Petherbridge and Harriet Walters' performances as simply superb. Wish there were more episodes, but there was only one other story written that I know of. I love this series.
Comments about PBS Mystery!: Dorothy L. Sayers Mysteries DVD 3PK:
We are delighted with this set of DVDs. We now have all of the Lord Peter Wimsey's. The character of Harriet is a fine addition to this serious. As much as we like this series, we like the other series even more. Perhaps that is just because we saw those first, but we somewhat prefer the other Wimsey and Bunter actors.
Comments about PBS Mystery!: Dorothy L. Sayers Mysteries DVD 3PK:
Mind you, I love this series of mysteries and have watched them many times. This is my favorite Lord Peter--truly believable and charming--but Harriet Vane is annoying. She is whiny and harpy and I just wanted to slap her most of the time. Even in the end, I didn't believe she truly fell in love with him. It could have been the casting or it could have been the script, likely it was both. Still, with all that, I highly recommend this series. The mysteries are terrific, the scenery awesome (not shot in a studio most of it). You won't regret buying it.
Comments about PBS Mystery!: Dorothy L. Sayers Mysteries DVD 3PK:
Our family enjoyed this series of Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane stories when they were first on PBS. We bought the books at the time, read them several times, and wished we could see the PBS series again. Finally we realized that this box of DVDs was a "must have" for our family. We've already watched them several times and have thoroughly enjoyed them. They are so well done!
Comments about PBS Mystery!: Dorothy L. Sayers Mysteries DVD 3PK:
Translating Dorothy Sayers' characters from the mid-1920's to the late 1980's may not be entirely possible, but Edward Petherbridge and Harriet Walter are about as close as you're likely to get. He's the right combination of intelligence and humor while she captures the tetchy independence of the well-educated bright young thing. Sadly, Richard Morant's Bunter isn't a patch on the original. But, as always, the BBC got the settings and the other characters just right. These three dramas should be savored just before you go back and read the originals.
