An impressive display of scientific analysis based on a thorough and vigorous review of data gathered over years of experimentation and research. The "Journey of Man" was an eye-opener and most revealing about the genesis of mankind and the "out of Africa" theory.
This study and the professional scientists who performed the research and the DNA results should put to rest the intrinsic thinking of "race" which accordingly, has no biological significance. Homosapiens cannot be subdivided into separate races (a design, fabricated by political pundits, to designate a superior race). I was very impressed with Dr. Spencer Wells and his convictions that an in-depth analysis of various peoples' DNA, around the world, would test his hypothesis that humankind began in Africa. This study reveals that science is far ahead of most of us.
Previously held "racists" views, beginning around the 6th century, put into play the deep thinking of a racial hierarchy that has been infused into textbooks and pervaded the mindset of many who have conducted their lives and opinions based on false precepts. It was extremely interesting to follow the "Journey" of the Africans' trek and to witness the contacts, made with indigenous populations at various locations around the world (including local scientists, who were involved with the study,) validating the results.
Across the broad spectrum, there are no anatomical differences among human beings. This study changes the views about the African continent being a "dark", isolated and insignificant land. It also reveals how African people, considered barbarous and inconsequential through their journey and their instinct to survive, populated the rest of the world. All civilizations, ancient and modern, owe their existence to their remarkable "Journey".

This is disappointing in that the focus gravitates toward Well's personal journey. Much more information could have been given on the specific markers used to classify the migratory patterns, especially on what is unique to each major group. Some of his assertions about being the first to visit or work with some groups is not really accurate, and the other experts brought in are sort of cherry picked rather than representing the best people to talk to about the various cultures. Less on Wells and more on the actual science would have helped.

Comments about PBS Journey of Man DVD:
I am so happy that this program was made.
I love History.
This program, done by Dr. Wells, is exceptional.
I have a little problem with the Aborigini section. I believe they did come from the piece of land they have been living on and it did originally break from the original piece of land.
Everything is timed in thousands of years.
I understand to make things simpler, just leave it at that. Thankyou. Suzanne Demers
Comments about PBS Journey of Man DVD:
I got the DNA sample from National Geographic & this researcher. to trace my two daughter's (adopted from China) 'genetic journey', and with that they sent a copy of this DVD! I wanted a copy for me to just view. This should be required viewing for "Health or Biology etc.' classes if not in grade school, then middle or high school. It would do a lot to clarify racial/identity questions. Everybody's Blood is basically the same, with some minor changes for environmental concerns.
Comments about PBS Journey of Man DVD:
Always interested in the human race.
Comments about PBS Journey of Man DVD:
The video / DVD was interesting and let the viewer into the mind of the scientist and clearly led the viewer through the process to th conclusion, with DNA evidence, that we are all one people.
Excellent
