THE OTTOMANS reveals the dramatic transformation of Islam after the Mongol invasion. Nomads enlisted to fight the Mongols stake their own claims and become known as Ottomans, pushing the Islamic world westward into Christian territories. Suleyman the Magnificent shapes the Ottomans into a military powerhouse; his wealthy, sophisticated empire threatens European power centers and Persian Safavids, before falling victim to enemies from within.

Magnificent and Powerful...

History of Islam from its dawn in the deserts of Mecca, to Baghdad once the center of knowledge, to the beauty of Al Andalusia, and finally the great Ottoman Empire and Suleiman the Magnificent.

In a time where the New World was not yet discovered, Europe was in its dark ages, and Byzantine was getting old, a force united Humans across three continents.

This is a real eye-opener...

Comments about PBS Empires: Islam: Empire of Faith DVD:

Islam: Empire of Faith is a well-crafted and highly
informative journey that allows the viewer to not only see the historical progression of the faith but
to gain understanding of the tenets embodied in the
revelations given to his "messenger". The video/film is a creative mixture of acting, discussions by experts, and superb camera work and
choice of location. Five stars does not represent perfection but rather a masterful job.

Comments about PBS Empires: Islam: Empire of Faith DVD:

Islam: Empire of Faith is by far the best historical overview of Islam I have seen. Not only is the material accurate and comprehensive, but it is presented in an interesting and engaging manner. Consequently, this is an essential teaching resource for courses on Islamic history and culture.
