I purchased this for a 'theme' class to help students understand the history of Greece. My audience as it turned out was too young for this lengthy production. It has actors playing the roll of Greek leaders, also kind of long to watch.

I borrowed this DVD from my local library and after having viewed same just had to have it!! I checked on PBS site and (fortunately) here it is! I feel this is a magnificently produced DVD and am delighted that I shall have the pleasure of owning same!

We purchased all of the videos pertaining to Greece for an upcoming trip. PBS makes these videos a wonderful and entertaining preparation for our visit.

Excellent information, well presented -- but many instances of skipping and freezing on the disc.

There are many programs about the ancient Greeks. This show distinguishes itself by choosing to emphasize the words and deeds of several of the great ancient Greek individuals, while the narrator provides context, and images and music set the tone. The show also presents some aspects of the familiar stories not usually recounted, while skipping over other elements that have often been emphasized in similar programs. So this DVD is somewhat unique, and is quite well done.
