From The Platters to the Cleftones to the Flamingos, DOO WOP 50 brings back the greatest artists to perform their most memorable hits once more. Filmed live at Pittsburgh's Benedum Center for the Performing Arts, this celebratory two-evening gala was hosted by singer Jerry Butler.

I started listening to this kind of music in 1957, not really paying attention to the various artists until later in life. I happened to catch this show on my local PBS station several years ago, and took it upon myself to locate the 3 boxed sets of DooWop on CD's ! Enjoying the music in the vehicles and in the house was fine, but then, viewing the shows once again, I determined that I'd like to replace my VCR tapes of these shows with DVD's. Fortuneately, ShopPBS.org was available, and now I own 2 of the 3 sets, and will purchase the third set in the near future ! This music will last forever in my opinion !

this is a wonderful visit back to the days of my youth. i really enjoyed seeing the performers as they are today, wearing the same style of suits, while sporting their grey hair snd ball heads. it made me want to dance again.

Don't pass it up

Comments about PBS Doo Wop: 50 DVD Volumes 1 & 2:

I play a little guitar and whenever someone mentions Doowop, I immediately think, easy 1,6,2,5 chord progression, mostly boring. But, when I saw this video, I was able to see singing groups I only was able to hear before. The live music is very well mixed so you hear all the voices and instruments. Jerry Butler does not spend any extra time in introducing the groups so you get a lot of music and just as little talk.

Worth the money, these groups are not going to be around too much longer. Go for it.
