Another Wodehouse series I first adored on PBS many years ago. I couldn't wait for the next episode each week. Then I found the set of tapes at a PBS store and wore them out. By then DVD's were the popular format, which I now own as well as the written series. Talk about fun escapism! Another wonderful afternoon or evening with my Wodehouse friends. The only thing better would be to find a new Wodehouse adventure.

I am such a Wodehouse fan. The men starring in this are familiar faces but the film just fell completely flat. They do the best they can. It may be in the writing. All of the Bertie and Jeeves stories are set in pre-WW I upper-class England. Bertie Wooster's crowd is rich, poorly educated, totally self-involved, shallow and, as it turns out, absolutely hilarious. He and Saki captured this world of servants, valets, country homes, rich aunts, and baffled older aristocrats which disappeared altogether after WWI. This film captures none of the somewhat caricatured lives of these aimless immature layabouts. You should read Wodehouse or at least give him a try.
If you don't know Wodehouse do not be discouraged by this film. My mother introduced them to me, I, to my children and have tried to interest some friends. It takes a certain something to be taken with these stories. It is either there or not. I don't have one good word to say about this series except I believe it is accurate with the really fey and extravagant clothing rich and well-bred young men of this era wore and the houses and grounds are true to the era.
On re-reading this I can see I am doing no better job of translating Wodehouse than the film did so I'll just let it be.

Hugh Laurie was great before "House." He is a riot as Bertie Wooster. And Stephen Fry is marvelous as his much smarter valet! We love this series.

This set is great. I didn't see many of these in the US when they were new even though I read all the stories. Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry are perfect for the parts and the stories are so funny and well done. The fact that they were made 20 years ago doesn't make any difference. They are timeless!

Love seeing Jeeves and Wooster when it first was on pbs several years ago. Huge Laurie is great! Bought this for my husband for his birthday and he was thrilled. Thanks so much for making it avilable for us. It dosen't get any better.

Excellent DVDs for a great price - so many wonderful Wodehouse stories in one collection, with the 2 best actors on the planet!!
I told my husband that when I'm dying just prop me up and put in these DVDs & I'll die happy!
