With her English accent and her London ways, Rose Coyne is the only 'stranger' in her rural Northern Ireland town, until 4,000 Americans arrive at the nearby WWII airbase. I liked this series and found it intriguing.

Comments about PBS Masterpiece: My Mother and Other Strangers DVD:

The hurried nature of only five segments made the last night's program a bit confused and disconcerting. Too much was crammed in without explanation or resolution. Perhaps the series creator is hoping that it will be picked up and expanded next season: yes, that would be a good outcome. As it ended, well, how disappointing. Also, some incongruous things happened: after forbidding their daughter to attend a party with the 21 year old med student("he's 21 and she's 16!") in episode #4, in episode #5 he seems to be her regular beau and calls on her at home. No explanation. I also can't believe that the entire security of her husband , herself, and the three children, is falling down around her ears and all Rose can think of is running into a rainy night to find the young Cpt. Dreyfuss to say, "Don't ever leave me." Really? Not a good or satisfying ending, and disappointing display by two characters of which I expected better. Please continue the series and come to a more mature conclusion for all considered. It's unthinkable to see her react in such a childish way to an existential crisis. Not convincing, and not keeping with her character as demonstrated earlier.

Comments about PBS Masterpiece: My Mother and Other Strangers DVD:

I really enjoyed the 5 episodes that just finished, Very good acting and interesting story line, I usually do not like stories set during war times, but this was exceptional. I hope there will be more episodes as you were left hanging at the end.

Comments about PBS Masterpiece: My Mother and Other Strangers DVD:

I was stationed in the 8th Airforce in England during WWll. Having a B17 base in Northern Ireland I'll give you for story line but if N.I wasn't a target how could they be so bad on the blackout. Foyes War slipped up a few times but bright headlights on the Jeep, no blackout curtains on the windows , outside door lights.
