Over the last 100 years, there have been countless stories about the Titanic's last hours, but little has been said about the shipbuilders and engineers who worked tirelessly below as the water rushed in and made the ultimate sacrifice. SAVING THE TITANIC takes us below deck to the engine and boiler rooms where these men worked, following them from the ship's departure from Southampton through to its eventual sinking.

Very well acted video about the sinking of the titanic and the heroic efforts by the crew to keep the ship afloat. An untold story. Very well acted. Worth the money to purchase this video. Great video for history buffs.

Outstanding Video

Comments about PBS Saving the Titanic DVD:

Having been an engineer in the Navy, one of those guys below decks most of the time while we were away at sea (and when we were in port, too), I was so grateful to see this particular topic addressed from the perspective it was. The engineers are often the "invisible ones", they keep things moving, electrified, and the plumbing doing its job, and everyone pretty much takes them for granted, until, of course, something doesn't work. These are the men and women who also are the first responders in the event of a tragedy at sea, they'll keep the services running, they'll be the ones with the skill sets and training to fight the fire, keep the bulkheads from caving in, the ones to control the flooding, and the ones very likely to die because of their dedication to what needs to get done, and the fact that they're often in places were catastrophes can very quickly trap and kill them.

An excellent job, an excellent video, entertaining for an old hole snipe like me and I would think equally entertaining to anyone who isn't familiar with what goes on below decks and why it's so important, in particular in a case such as that of the Titanic.

Comments about PBS Saving the Titanic DVD:

The actual goings on on the titanic are unknown except for the statements of a few survivors, but this film gives a general idea of what the boiler room jockeys went through to keep the lights on for as long as they did. A masterful story for sure.

Comments about PBS Saving the Titanic DVD:

I watched this latest chapter to the Titanic saga and sat mesmerized! A fresh, new insight into the famous disater and a fitting tribute to the men who moved Titanic through the sea, and, in the final minutes of her agonizing struggle, kept the lights on for those on the decks above! A true HEROes' Story! Well Done!
