You're captivated after 30 minutes and can't wait for the next chapter! Many surprises. Interlocking romances set the tone, but do not dictate historically accurate content. When the series ends, you're left wanting to know exactly what happens to every character -- just the effect a good tale is supposed to have.

This is one of the most enjoyable of all the British drama series. The cast is superb, the setting of Cornwall dramatic, and the story is gripping. It's based on a series of novels by the late Winston Graham, so the story lines are well worked out and the characters three-dimensional. It tells of a Cornish minor aristocrat who returns from the American Revolutionary War to discover his home in ruins and his fiancée engaged to his cousin. It's a saga full of adventure, love, friendship, betrayal & greed--set against the fantastic scenery of rugged Cornwall. Viewers of Masterpiece Theater rated it one of the top 10 British series ever shown on PBS.
