Slavery By Another Name challenges one of America's most cherished assumptions - the belief that slavery in the US ended with Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation - by telling the harrowing story of how in the South, a new system of involuntary servitude took its place with shocking force.

Comments about PBS Slavery By Another Name DVD:

This was not an easy DVD to watch as I hope it wouldn't be for any decent human being. The information presented is not pleasant because we like to think Racism is dying and that slavery in this country is dead.Well, this documentary puts those illusions to rest and does it with facts and examples. It's really a "must see."

History at Its Useful Best

Comments about PBS Slavery By Another Name DVD:

Slavery By Another Name connects the dots of America's ongoing dependance on race based oppression and exploitation. When American chattel slavery ended it was a joyous moment for the black people held in bondage and those who opposed slavery. But, it was really only a moment. This production shows how and why the joy was short lived; knowledge omitted in most recountings.

Very Eye Opening!

Comments about PBS Slavery By Another Name DVD:

Having always been sympathetic to the civil rights movement,I thought that I knew the trials & tribulations that black folks had been through in the 20th century. This film opened my eyes up to how horrific things were, even beyond what I believed them to be. In some ways, many black people had it worse after emancipation, because they were no longer valued as property. Buy this and give it to a white supremacist.

Comments about PBS Slavery By Another Name DVD:

Slavery By Another Name is one of the best documentaries I have ever watched. Anyone who believes that African Americans were ever granted true equality of citizenship with whites in this country will have their illusion shattered by this DVD. The shows why even to this day there is no true equality under the law between African Americans and whites.

I lived it and really never knew it!

Comments about PBS Slavery By Another Name DVD:

A convincing insight into why there is so much distrust in our society. Thank you for putting this together and allow me to come to grips with the extent of man's inhumanity to man.
