Single DVD

When a middling copy editor/failed poet meets his former lover for lunch 15 years after their affair, he finds that everything -- and nothing -- has changed. From the tablecloths to the wine to his former lover, wealth and success now gloss the surface where kitsch and passion once held sway. He is bitter, petulant and increasingly inebriated; she is glamorous, generous, and eventually provoked.

Lunch is a masterpiece

Comments about PBS Masterpiece: Song of Lunch DVD:

I had seen this production a few years ago and then it was repeated on the morning show here in Philadelphia about 2 weeks ago.
I loved the narrators voice and the description he uses of everything he runs into on his way to lunch with his long separated former wife. But he is a poet and he has to describe everything he sees and experiences. He is almost an objectivist and he has minimal emotional feeling as to what is really happening with his former wife as she sits opposite him for lunch. But I just loved the narrative descriptions. It was truly fun to listen to him.

I bought this because I love these two actors. But, it's not my kind of movie. Just personal preference.

Comments about PBS Masterpiece: Song of Lunch DVD:

What a performance by these two storied actors. I've already watched it three times relishing in the setting, the dialogue and the ending. The best 50 minutes of poetry I've seen this year.

Emma Thompson - Brilliant

Comments about PBS Masterpiece: Song of Lunch DVD:

I was blown away by Emma Thompson's absolutely brilliant final rebuke of Alan Rickman's behavior over the years. I can't think of many other actresses who could have given this most memorable performance. I purchased copies for two of my actor sons just for that one fantastic scene.
