I purchased this for a precocious 8 year old who is intent on reading only "chapter books" in imitation of her older sister. Often she zooms through those more complex than she can handle asking for definitions a few days later to make sense out of some missed portions. The book of Tales was like a chapter book that could be started and then stopped for a break. It had many more and more beautiful illustrations than most of the chapter books and it kept her engrossed in spite of its obviously child friendly cover.
