Lady Fiona Carnarvon has shown a true gift for biographical writing in this volume, which I appreciated for two reasons: (1) the descriptions of manners and morals during the Edwardian age, and (2) the details of her husband's work with Howard Carter throughout the long years leading up to the discovery of King Tut's tomb. Highclere Castle is a star in its own right, and we owe a debt of gratitude to Lady Fiona for sharing her family's ancestral history in such a well-paced book.

Difficult to keep reading but I did so, because I knew some of the generalities of the history of this family. I would suggest if you want to write a book, to get more help from scholarly people who have previously written or edited books, to make this one more interesting to read. Too much trivial information about who attended each specific function, is not necessary. Just because you have a "title", does not make you a good writer.

Comments about PBS Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey: The Lost Legacy of Highclere Castle (Paperback):

Bought this to give my neighbor, an avid fan of Downton Abbey. After reading it myself, I am sure she will love it. Just wish I hadn't got that spot of jelly on a page. The author, the current Lady Carnarvon, is writing a sequel going forward from the Twenties. I will get that one as well.

This book was hard to put downton get on with work. Lady Carnarvon writes in easy-to-read language and the story flows easily. I was just a teeny bit sad to put it down because I wanted to know more.

Comments about PBS Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey: The Lost Legacy of Highclere Castle (Paperback):

The current Countess Carnarvon has compiled an extensive history of the Highclere, it's guests and reincarnations, such as a convalescent home during the war. Includes an extensive family history, focusing on Lady Almina, of course, as well as English history. All in an extremely well-written book.
