Comments about PBS Smiley's People DVD:
One of John LeCarre's masterpieces which has been faithfuly adapted to the screen. Alex Guiness is perfect as George Smiley.
Comments about PBS Smiley's People DVD:
Together with Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy-- British fiction at its best.
Comments about PBS Smiley's People DVD:
Beautifully acted, touching story. suspense maintained up till the end.
Comments about PBS Smiley's People DVD:
Smiley's People is a prefect way to follow Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Alec Guiness is in rare form once again as the brilliant George Smiley and this adaptation of LeCarre's book is every bit as good as reading the book. IT IS AMAZING.
Comments about PBS Smiley's People DVD:
This is the follow-up to TTSS (Tinker,Taylor,Soldier,Spy). After digging out the mole (I won't tell you who it was, find out for yourself), Smiley wants Karla, the head man in Moscow. Another brain twister, which, like all good spy-detective stories, is full of surprises, rebounds, etc, which in the end, in a wider perspective all fall into place in a puzzle which turns out to make a lot of sense. Especially after 1993. Guinness is just as good in this one, and has more on-screen time, because he's operating somewhat "out of the box", mavericking his way "with the help of some friends".
If you liked TTSS, you will like this one just as much. In my mind, both must be watched in a continual sequence, like on a Saturday marathon of enjoyment. That's what I did, and although my lower back-side was getting stiff and my lower legs were getting a little numb from prolonged sitting, my brain was completely electrified!
