Comments about PBS An American Family: Anniversary Edition DVD:
Watched this show when it first aired and with all the reality shows on television now, this is by far the best there ever was. It's amazing it took several years for someone to catch onto the theme.
Comments about PBS An American Family: Anniversary Edition DVD:
Since the original 12 hour series will never be made available due to music rights clearances issues, this two hour feature film version of the 1973 An American Family series is the official PBS release. This two hours version successfully condenses the story of Bill and Pat Loud's troubled marriage and introduces audiences to the first real life gay person on TV in Lance Loud. A must for American Family fans and an introduction to newcomers as well.

Very glad to see this available on DVD!
Comments about PBS An American Family: Anniversary Edition DVD:
I agree with John. I want the whole series. I watched this as it was recently televised, but I was hoping it was just to entice viewers to buy the whole series. However , I did enjoy seeing the Loud family and reading the end credits that Bill and Pat were back together as Lance had hoped.
Comments about PBS An American Family: Anniversary Edition DVD:
I'm truly disappointed that PBS did not reissue the entire 12-hour series in a four- or five-DVD box set. Anyone who loves the series (as I do)--or who loves documentaries in general--will want to see the full run of episodes. I'm not sure who this two-hour compilation is being marketed to, but it strikes me as a compromise that serves no one. Since I was required to submit a rating for a product I have not seen, I clicked one star, just to register my disappointment. For all I know the original filmmakers have made a fine two-hour compilation. But I would have appreciated the option of being able to buy the entire series as well.
