The Silence discusses the legacy of abuse by a number of men who worked for the Catholic Church along Alaska's far west coast in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is followed by an update of "Flying Cheaper," a story on the outsourcing of major airline repair work to lower-cost independent maintenance operations. Finally, the hour closes with a story update about Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei.

Wrenching

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: The Silence DVD:

I have seen just about everything regarding the abusive bishop/priest crisis in the Catholic church, but never anything this overwhelmingly, hauntingly sad. The fact that it is only 30 minutes long makes its powerful impact even more astonishing. I will never be the same for having seen this. Those who survived this horror show forth the true face of the Christian God far more authentically than any bishop or priest. If the bishops actually read the Gospel and lived by it, they would finally "get it." But since hope for that is slim, the integrity of these suffering people is a beacon of light and a promise of the healing that can only come from speaking truth to power. The wounded and risen Christ is with them in a most powerful way.

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: The Silence DVD:

Mark Trahant is a master journalist. His treatment of this subject was very compassionate. The suffering has gone on long enough. I hope having the silence broken will allow the healing that they are seeking.
