Comments about PBS Masterpiece: Piece of Cake DVD:
I like this series because it adds the dimension of personality. Instead of the usual band of brothers all united in the good fight, we see a group of diverse individuals. Sometimes they fight against each other, out dated tactics, fighter command, combat stress, leadership etc. They are pilots, but they are more human than hero.
Movies like the 1968 movie Battle of Britain overlooked this fact. Piece of Cake tries to correct this oversight.
Comments about PBS Masterpiece: Piece of Cake DVD:
I thoroughly enjoyed this mini-series when it first aired on PBS and couldn't wait to add it to my WWII DVD collection. As a fan of aerial warfare, it doesn't get any better than this. Well made, well written and the photography is stunning. A must for anyone who is a WWII history buff, particularly the air war across the pond.
Comments about PBS Masterpiece: Piece of Cake DVD:
An excellent British series from the mid-80s, that provides a different look into the airmen who fought during the early days of the war.
Comments about PBS Masterpiece: Piece of Cake DVD:
"Piece of Cake" is a valuable commentary/story which accurately depicts the atmosphere of a flying squadron before and during war time.
Initially Hornet squadron is a peace time flying club with pilots getting into trouble both in the air and on the ground. The squadron soon exhibits the enthusiasm of deploying to fight the war. While deployed, prewar partying eventually is replaced with the fatigue of constant combat and the realization that one can get killed doing his job. Newbies (replacements) arrive and are eager to partake in the war games but are blissfully ignorant of the horrors of combat.
The only negative comment is that the quality of some of the copied video is marginal.
Overall, an excellent production and valuable addition to any aviation enthusiasts's library.
