A very informative series. One I would definately share with my son who by the way is a Black Dominican. I found the last reviewer's comment interesting "...it seems as though Gates would have Dominicans deny their Spanish heritage". I believe Prof. Gates's point is that the African culture and heritage is not equally embraced as the European (Spaniard) by Dominican society. I would have to agree from personal experiences. I come to understand that African history and education is not incorporated as a national curriculum at the public school level. Which in the country's history has shown it to manifests into a degree of bias and intolerance.

Not a great fan of this series. I wish Prof. Gates would have spoken to a few ordinary Dominicans - except for one brief comment from a musician, all the commentators were from the university. Also, I would have found it more credible if the names of the towns were actually pronounced correctly - or even close. Nagua, for example is pronounced nah gwah, not na goo ah. I understand this is about "Black in Latin America" but it seems as though Gates would have Dominicans deny their Spanish heritage.

Very informative and highly educational!

Comments about PBS Black in Latin America DVD:

This is one of the best DVDs I have ever viewed. Not only is it informative, interesting but educational, as well. I knew there were many, many Blacks in Brazil but had no idea they were scattered in Mexico and Peru. I've had the opportunity to travel to Brazil and other parts of the world and have seen black faces in places I didn't think they would be. I've already gifted three other people with the Black in Latin America DVD and have watched my copy several times. Thank you for a wonderful piece of work.

Comments about PBS Black in Latin America DVD:

This is Great to have in your Home Library for Friends, Guest and most of all kids. It's always interesting to notice how the African ( Slavery ) Seed has Impact on all the Cultures of the World.
To define how you make it on Nothing, to show that Nature is God, and should be Respected and Protected. How we add a Flavor of Life in Food, Music and Love.
