Broken Tail, was a charismatic tiger cub in Ranthambore, one of India's best protected tiger reserves. He suddenly and without warning abandoned his sanctuary and went on the run moving through farmland and scrub until he was killed by a train nearly 200 miles from its home. The Most Moving Tale I've Seen in Ages.

Comments about PBS NATURE: Broken Tail: A Tiger's Last Journey Blu-ray:

Nature never disappoints. I'm still wiping away tears from watching this episode. It was a beautifully moving documentary of an extraordinary tiger mother and one of two cubs that I wish I could have saved. I once had a 700 lb. tiger walk past me on a leash at Shambala Reserve in California. Being in the presence of such a magnificent and huge animal was daunting and thrilling all at the same time.

I hope, as cameraman Colin Stafford-Johnson states, that Broken Tail will indeed move supposedly intelligent people to do SOMETHING about these dangerously low tiger populations. I was heartened to see that India was taking steps to create more reserves, but saddened that numbers are still falling.

Seeing past celebrities shooting tigers like fish in a barrel was horrifying, but not the first time that the ignorance of man has killed off species of animals, but shame on them. Definitely moved me to want to help take action to help these incredible animals.

Comments about PBS NATURE: Broken Tail: A Tiger's Last Journey Blu-ray:

A must-see program for anyone who respects the natural world in general and the vanishing big cats specifically. If you are studying the history of India, you will want to see this show as well. Be prepared to shed a tear or two!
