Comments about PBS Gosford Park (2001):
We bought this because we absolutely love Downton Abbey, and Julian Fellows who writes both Downton Abbey and the screenplay for Gosford Park won an Oscar for best original screenplay. Maybe it is the limitations of movies, but the characters were much lest developed and seemed a bit shallow in Gosford Park. Also, quite a bit of the acting was not as good as it is in Downton Abbey. Maggie Smith and Helen Mirron give good performances, but they are only in supporting roles. We found the movie unsatisfying as either a drama or a mystery, and we love both genres of British literature. In the end we should have rented the movie or borrowed from the local library rather than purchasing the movie. We are unlikely to watch it again since it was so middling, that we will likely either donate it or place in the local garage sale.

Comments about PBS Gosford Park (2001):
I loved it but I must admit that I have been spoiled by the video of Downton Abbey that was purchased by a friend. We just couldn't stop viewing it until we had seen all the episodes!
I have ordered the other episodes of when the war is taking place. I can't wait for it to arrive!
Thank you,
Joanne Gallant
