Comments about PBS Independent Lens: When I Rise DVD:
This account of Barbara Smith Conrad's ability to overcome the bigotry of mid-century Texas is matched not only by her talent and triumph and her return to the University of Texas to nuture young talent such as Icy Simpson but also to receive the accolade from the Texas Legislature some 50 years after she was spurned by the same body. Gripping story.
