Excellent: My wife and I visited Germany July 1990, drove into East Germany at Eisenach and saw East German guards dismantling the guard tower at the check point on the highway. At another place we also saw a concrete guard tower along the highway where the Iron Curtain fence crossed from East to West and cut a 300 foot swath through the forest. The tower was still intact and we went inside and looked out. A large 2-story brick box-like building was nearby which housed the different shifts of guards. On the out side was written in large letters STASI the word for the East German secret police. We have visited this same tower four times, the last in 2008 but it is now sealed up and the forest is returning and farmers are now farming the land along where the fence used to be. Our experience with the local people has been excellent, probably 90 percent were against Hitler but couldn't do much for fear of getting killed.
