Based on naturalist Gerald Durrell's trilogy of novels, The Durrells in Corfu sees impoverished widow Louisa Durrell (Keeley Hawes, MI-5) make the radical decision to leave 1930s England to seek out a new destiny for her family. As she relocates her brood to a house in the Greek sun, the Durrells face a whole new set of challenges as they meet new friends, rivals, lovers--and animals.

Delightful story to watch, but disappointed that several scenes have been cut from what originally aired on PBS.

Comments about PBS Masterpiece: The Durrells in Corfu - Season 1 (Full UK- Length Edition) DVD:

I identify with the different characters in this story, because of the wonderful writing, and the marvelous acting. I fell in love with Corfu when I visited there in 1965, so watching this is like receiving a gift each week!

Great entertainment..good development of characters and fun for the whole family. Also we loved the scenery and the Greek men were so Greek! We are giving two of 'The Durrells in Corfu' for Christmas presents.

Comments about PBS Masterpiece: The Durrells in Corfu - Season 1 (Full UK- Length Edition) DVD:

This is a nice changeup from the heavier dramas on Masterpiece Theater. Mother is a strong steady woman who realizes besides wanting the best for her children, she needs to be true to herself. I enjoyed the continual adjustments and personal growth of each member of the family. Corfu is full of interesting people who embody a closely knit community. The drawing back of the curtain allows for short amounts of details that reveal snippets of the villagers and friends. Season 1's ending was surprisingly bitter and sweet. Really looking forward to Season 2. Maybe in mid-Winter or early Spring?

It keeps on going and going.....

Comments about PBS Masterpiece: The Durrells in Corfu - Season 1 (Full UK- Length Edition) DVD:

I admit I get depressed at the end of a series but to my astonishment masterpiece always seems to replace one series with another just as great if not better (if that's at all possible).
Tears were shed at the end of Downton but then along came Indian Summers, Poldark and The Durrells in Corfu.
They are all very different but all are captivating and masterfully done.
I thought the Durrells might be a little boring but on the contrary the story line, the landscape and the cast are enchanting.
Masterpiece I don't know how you do it but please continue doing it forever.
