Based on the circumstances of the crash, few facts could be provided. Interesting theories on the pitot tube problem and the weather as the likely, primary cause of the crash. The DVD is somewhat outdated at this point due to the very recent recovery of Flight 447's black boxes.
Volume II should prove to be much more emlightening.

I am a retired pilot rated in the A330. The program did a good job presenting the viewers with what may have happened to AF447. It clearly shows the problem with automated flight decks. The crews rely on the automated systems to assist them in dealing with malfunctions. The initial ECAM messages A/P OFF, A/T OFF, warned the crew the auto flight functions were unusable and at least one pilot must fly the aircraft, the flight controls degraded to ALT LAW making this more difficult. The program did an outstanding job in the forensic analysis of what may have gone wrong that evening over the Atlantic Ocean.

I agree totally with B-52 pilot. Pilot fatigue is also probable cause for not setting the aircraft into proper configuration for this specific emergency. Too many of today's new pilots are not seat-of-the pants guys. Taking control of the aircraft with BOTH hands seems a given. Fly FIRST. Analyze second. Going uncontrolled over the ocean at night is a nightmare come true. As ex Navy, there is no darkness like the dark over the ocean at night. This is an excellent video. I am using it with my science classes. Real world sutff is priceless. Kids understand that science matters.
