DEFYING THE NAZIS: THE SHARPS' WAR tells the never-before-told story of Waitstill and Martha Sharp, an American minister and his wife from Wellesley, Massachusetts, who left their children behind in the care of their parish and boldly committed to a life-threatening mission in Europe. Over two dangerous years they helped save scores of imperiled dissidents and refugees fleeing the Nazi occupation across Europe.

Extraordinary Quality from a World Class Historian

Comments about PBS Defying the Nazis: The Sharps' War DVD:

I watched this last evening and it was an extraordinary production reflecting how hatred and prejudice produced the Hitler Era and World War II. We must be on our guard to prevent another repeat of this kind of world terror again.

Comments about PBS Defying the Nazis: The Sharps' War DVD:

There is a scene of an escape route across the treacherous mountains on the border between France and Spain which is the same route my father took to escape in 1943.

When my mother and my older brother and I (he was 9 years old, I was 5) attempted a few months later to take the same route our guide never showed up, and we could not escape. After waiting for a week or so we had to return to occupied Holland. This video brought tears to my eyes.
