In 1936, nine boys from the University of Washington took the rowing world and a nation by storm, when their eight-oar crew team captured the gold medal at the Olympics in Berlin. The boy's victory, and the obstacles, inspired a nation struggling to emerge from the depths of the Depression.

Great story for those interested in past olympics and in life in rural western North America during the early 19th century.

Comments about PBS American Experience: The Boys of '36 DVD:

This documentary is very well done and is a perfect companion for the book, "The Boys in a Boat". I watched this on IPTV when it aired and was excited to learn I could buy it! It gives great information about the background and trials of the "boys" as well as what the 1936 Olympics in Berlin was like. Anyone who likes to learn more about this special rowing team or about the realities of the 1936 Olympics will immensely enjoy this documentary. I highly recommend it!
